Susan Elizabeth Rice (born November 17, 1964) is an American public official and a democratic who served as the 24th U.S. National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2017.

Susan Rice was on the staff of the National Security Council and was the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during President Bill Clinton's second term. A Brookings Institution fellow, she served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 2009 to 2013.

The U.S. Senate confirmed her as ambassador by unanimous consent on January 22, 2009. She is a past member of the boards of directors of the National Democratic Institute, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF,[28] the Atlantic Council and Internews Network. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group.

She worked as an international management consultant at the firm, McKinsey & Company, from 1990 to 1993. Rice served in the Clinton administration in various capacities: at the National Security Council (NSC) from 1993 to 1997; as director for international organizations and peacekeeping from 1993 to 1995; and as a special assistant to the president and senior director for African affairs from 1995 to 1997.

Rice was then put in Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in October 1997. During which, she worked as a head diplomat for African affairs during the 1998 terrorist bombings in Tanzania and Kenya. Rice held the position of Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution from 2002 to 2009. Rice then served as the 27th United States Ambassador to the United Nations from January 2009 to June 2013 and as National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2017 under Barack Obama's presidency. On March 28, 2018, Rice was appointed to the board of directors at Netflix.
