Majak Daw was born on March 11, 1991, in Khartoum, Sudan. He is the third of his parent's eventual nine children. His family fled the Second Sudanese Civil War, living in Egypt for three years, then moved to Australia in 2003. He attended school at MacKillop College in Werribee.
Majak Daw was picked up with a ninth pick in the 2010 rookie draft. His career at North Melbourne began with playing for VFL club Werribee, where he continued to develop his game. He made his first appearance for North Melbourne in a pre-season NAB cup match against the Western Bulldogs. In 2011, he was racially abused by a Port Melbourne Football Club supporter while he was playing for the Werribee Tiger in the VFL. In 2013, he had an excellent showing in the 2013 NAB Cup, which prompted calls for his inclusion in the Senior Side. In 2015, he was delisted. However, he was re-drafted in the 2016 rookie draft. In 2017, after having a season full of injuries and only managing to play seven games in total, at the end of the 2017 AFL season, he eyed versatility as an AFL player. In 2018 offseason, he changed his position from a forward to a defender.
