From July 2015 to January 2016 he was loaned to Primeira Liga club Moreirense F.C. He made 29 appearances for Moreirense F.C. but did not score any goals. Then from 2016-17, he was again loaned for another Primeira Liga "C.F. Os Belenenses". Palhinha scored only one goal for "C.F. Os Belenenses" in his 13 appearances. He made his competitive debut with the first team of Sporting CP on 21 January 2017 in a match against C.S. Marítimo. He scored his first goals for Sporting CP on 12 October 2017, scoring twice in a 4–2 away win over ARC Oleiros for the 2017-18 season of "Taça de Portugal".
In 2018, Palhinha was loaned to S.C. Braga where he played the 2018/19 season of Primeira Liga. João Palhinha has been a regular pick during his two seasons with Braga and helped the club qualify for the 2018/19 Europa League. Palhinha along with "Braga FC" team-mate won the "Taça da Liga: 2019–20"
on 25 January 2020 which was played between Braga and Porto as the Finalist. As of 2020, He is playing for the 2019/20 season of Primeira Liga for the Club. In his 41 appearances for Braga FC, Palhinha has scored 3 goals for the club.
