He is the younger son of an English football manager and former player Harry Redknapp. He is a cousin of Frank Lampard and a nephew of former West Ham United coach Frank Lampard Sr.

• While he was still attending school, Jamie began his early football career at Tottenham Hotspur as a youth player.
•   He began his professional career, at the age of 16, in 1989 at AFC Bournemouth, the football Club which was under his father, manager Harry Redknapp at that time.
•  He made 13 appearances for AFC Bournemouth before attracting the attention of Liverpool, who signed him on 15 January 1991.
•  His 11 years at Liverpool were the most prolific, playing more than 237 league games for the club and being involved in winning the 1995 Football League Cup Final.
• Redknapp signed to Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer on 18 April 2002 with just a couple of fixtures remaining of the 2001–02 season.
• After making 49 appearances for  Tottenham Hotspur,  Jamie transferred to Southampton Football Club on 4 January 2005 and made his debut on 5 January 2005 in the 3–3 league draw with Fulham at St Mary's.
• Redknapp got retired from the game due to his constant injury problem at the end of the season, on 19 June 2005. 
• On 11 December 2008, it was announced Jamie Redknapp would become the coach of Chelsea reserves two days a week whilst studying for his UEFA coaching badges.

The duo gets married in Bermuda on 29 June 1998. The couples are the parents of their two sons named Charles William "Charley" Redknapp born on 27 July 2004 at London's Portland Hospital and another son named "Beau" born in 2008.  The couple got separated in September 2017 and finalized their divorce on 29 December 2017.
