Gabriel Attal was born on 16 March 1989. He is from Clamart, France. His early life was spent in the 13th and 14th arrondissements of Paris alongside his three sisters. His father, Yves Attal, was a lawyer and film producer with a diverse heritage, while his mother, Marie de Couriss worked in the film production industry. Gabriel, whose birth name is Gabriel Nissim Attal, holds French nationality and belongs to a mixed ethnicity. Raised in his mother's faith in Orthodox Christianity, he attended the exclusive private school École alsacienne in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, achieving a Baccalauréat with a "Mention Très Bien" in 2007. 

Continuing his education, he studied law at Panthéon-Assas University from 2008 to 2011, earning a Master of Public Affairs from Sciences Po in 2012. His early political engagement began with participation in the 2006 youth protests in France, and he later created a committee for the support of Íngrid Betancourt during his time at Sciences Po in 2007.
