Elton John was born on 25th March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England, the UK. His parents named him Reginald Kenneth Dwight at the time of his birth. He holds an English nationality and belongs to the white caucasian ethnicity. Aries is his star sign. Despite being raised in a Christian (Anglican) household, he is a prominent atheist.

Elton was born into a wealthy well-established family. His father, Stanley Dwight was a sergeant who served in the Royal Air Force while his mother Sheila Eileen was music enthusiastic. When he was 14, his parents got divorced. His mother then married a local painter, Fred Farebrother, a caring and supportive stepfather called "Derf". 

He was educated at Pinner Wood Junior School, Reddiford School, and Pinner County Grammar School until he was 17 when he left just prior to his A-Level examinations to pursue a career in music. As a result, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London for five years.

John and Furnish were among the first couples to form a civil partnership in the United Kingdom, which was held at the Windsor Guildhall. After same-sex marriage became legal in the United Kingdom in March 2014, John and Furnish married in Windsor, Berkshire, on 21 December 2014, the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership.

They have two sons. The elder, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, was born via surrogacy on 25 December 2010 in California. The younger, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, was born on 11 January 2013 through the same surrogate.
